and if we die, we die for the Lord.
Notes from sermon by Rev. Thomas Boyd 1-27-2013
What is keeping me from being totally sold out to Jesus? Is there some one or some thing coming between me and Jesus? Where am I headed? Is my direction guided by the Lord or by something else? Am I growing in the Lord or am I shrinking? We are either moving forward or falling behind. What is at the very core of your life? The way you can find out the answer is to look at where you spend your money and time. “each of us will give an account of himself to God.” -Romans 14:12
Sometimes, as Christians, we love the world more than we love each other. We need to love others, even when they push your buttons. Let things go. Letting go starts in our minds. We make a conscious decision to move forward with forgiveness and love rather than harboring negative feelings. Don’t let the sun go down on your anger. If I am critical and I am looking down on others, then I have a problem with the Lordship of Jesus. Lack of unity in the body of Christ shows a problem with the Lordship of Jesus. We are called to treat others with respect. Be the light for the world.
Why does it matter? If Jesus is not Lord, then He is not your savior. If Jesus is not Lord OF all, then He is not Lord AT all.
For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. -2 Corinthians 4:5-6
If we are not being the light of the world, who will be? Are we allowing people to give their lives to false teaching?
I can choose right now to let go of everything and make Jesus Lord of my life. Or I can hold on to the sin in my life that leads to guilt, shame, fear, anger, jealousy, criticism, bitterness and every other unhealthy, unhappy thing we could think of. Whatever I choose will influence my life as well as the lives of those around me.
“…I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live…” -Deuteronomy 30:19
