We have heard many thoughts, predictions and warnings. There have been many false teachers and prophets. Still, the end of the world will actually come sooner or later.
The “last days” began when Jesus was resurrected. The signs all around us point to the reality that we are living in the end times. Everyone wants to know exactly when the end will be. Scripture says that only God knows.
In the beginning, mankind was given dominion over the earth. Everything changed when the first man and woman sinned … disobeyed God. But God has a sovereign plan. Of course He cares about our problems and struggles. He also sees the big picture. God reveals to us through Daniel that eventually His kingdom will smash all other kingdoms of this world to pieces. They will be swept away without leaving a trace. Then God will set up His kingdom that will never be destroyed or taken over by another people.
The New Testament has 137 references to the kingdom of God. What is it? It refers to God’s sovereign rule over the universe. Once we are fully present with the Lord, all we know here won’t matter anymore. Will we suffer for our faith? Maybe. Will we have struggles and troubles in this world? Definitely. But the Lord is coming. He will overthrow the enemy and his power. The enemy tries to make getting into the kingdom of God seem like the most difficult thing to us. But salvation is simple. Give your will and your life over to the lordship of Jesus Christ. This means you allow Jesus to make all the decisions in your life … decisions regarding your mind, your body, your relationships, your work, your finances … everything! Jesus is Lord because He is the only Son of God, sinless and perfectly obedient to His Father, and it is His precious blood that sets us free. The only proper response to this reality is that of the Wise Men … worship Him!
Watching world events on the news can be overwhelming. We know the world will end sooner or later. So what should we do? Don’t worry about exactly when Jesus will return. Live each day as though He will return tomorrow. If He did, what would He find you doing? Today and every day, do your best to be everything God has called you to be.
