"...if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." ~Joshua 24:15
I believe in understanding and accepting people ... in loving people. But when we accept behavior that is not OK, THAT is not OK. Being loving and kind does not mean we compromise God's truth. The world hates Jesus. If we're not careful, if we do not stand up for what is right, we will end up going along with them.
On March 30, 1863, the president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, proclaimed a national day of prayer and fasting. He stated, "We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven. We have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth and power as no other nation has ever grown, but we have forgotten God. It behooves us then to humble ourselves before the offended power, to confess our national sins and to pray for clemency and forgiveness." When President Lincoln was inaugurated in 1865, he expressed the irony of opposite sides of the warring nation praying to the same God for victory. He prayed that the country would turn back to God. At the presidential inauguration in 2001, Franklin Graham prayed the same thing. Pastor Graham prayed in the name of the Father, and of the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, and of the Holy Spirit. There were law suits. It was decided that Franklin Graham can never pray in public again.
What has happened to us? We started out a Christian nation. Of course, we've had our problems; we have not done everything right. Our laws and ordinances were based on the Word of God, and when we live according to them, we do well. Jesus changed the world. Every one in the world has heard His name. He can't be minimized, marginalized or ignored. Jesus is the most dominant figure in history. The world is assaulting your senses. You have choices to make, and these choices are so very important, because the consequences will be serious and far-reaching.
Prov. 13:5 “A righteous man hates lying, but a wicked man is loathsome and comes to shame.”
Pontius Pilate was aware that Jesus did not do what He was being accused of, however, he did not want trouble. He asks Jesus, "What is truth?" It doesn't matter if he was being sarcastic or sincere. Jesus answered that HE is truth. Truth was standing right in front of Pilate and he did not recognize it. So many have lost the truth today. Christians have not stood for what they say they believe for too long. As soon as we start to accept lies, our lives change for the worse. We lose direction, purpose ... we have no moral compass. Without Gods Word, what do we use for our basis of judgement? How do we live without knowing what is right or wrong? Without God's truth, we will collapse individually, as families, communities and nations.
Is there a way back? Yes! It starts with us. We have the answers. We know the solutions. We need to pray and share the gospel. Repent. Stop doing wrong things and do right things. Turn from the way you are going and move in another direction - GOD'S direction. Let God lead, steer, be in control.
America needs a new direction. There has been a dramatic change in attitude over the decades. Too many are afraid to offend anyone with Truth. God Himself is the truth. Rely on Him. Follow Him.
One day Jesus is coming back. He will be the authority. There will be tough times before that, but things will end well for those who put their trust in Jesus.
Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.
